School based continuous and comprehensive evaluation for the students of the secondary stage.
The Board has introduced the scheme of continuous and comprehensive evaluation for the students at the secondary stage. It is intended to provide a holistic profile of the learner through assessment of both scholastic and non-scholastic aspects of education spread over the total span of instructional time in the schools. It helps to identify those positive attributes of the learner which are not usually assessed during the examinations conducted by the Board. It is spread over a period of two years in class IX and X and provides several opportunities of the school to identify the talent of the learners in different contexts. The certificate of school based evaluation is supportive to the statement of Marks issued by the Board after the examinations conducted by it.The several attitudes / traits / competencies / skills of learners are identifies by the school on five point scale. Each grade of the scale refers to the following level performance.
Grade | Level of performance |
---|---|

A | 90-80% |
B+ | 80-70% |
B | 70-60% |

C | 50-40% |
D+ | 40-30% |

CBSE has introduced a new pattern of assessing the students in various aspects. This new pattern is termed as continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE). CCE enables us to evaluate the students talents in various fields. For this a student is evaluated through the academic year through various measures, along with the class room test, terminal exams etc.
For the convenience of evaluation, the whole academic year is divided into two terms. Term I is from April to September and Term II is from October to March. CCE covers mainly two areas-scholastic and co-scholastic. Scholastic area evaluates the student's academic performance, work experience physical and health education and art education. Academic performance is evaluated through two types of Assessement formative assessement and summative assignment. Formative Assessement (FA) is carried out through out the year by the teacher formally and informally. It include home work, class work, questions , quizzes, projects, assignments/tests, Speaking Skill, Listening Skill, Notebook Assessmenr etc.
Summative assesement is the feed back on learning experience which is evaluated at the end of each term through. "Term End Exam" for this schools are entitled to follow the CBSE rules strictly.
Scholastic area evaluates the life skills, attitudes and values, out door activities etc.
The final assessement is the sum of formative and summative assessement. So, parents must realise that CCE plays an important rote in the present CBSE curriculum.
Parents / Guardians are requested to examine carefully the Progress Report sent after every school examination and return it duly signed within two days. They should see that their children make special efforts to study those subjects in which they are weak.
